about me
I studied 'Silversmithing and Metalwork' at Camberwell College of Arts, London, and now work full-time as a jeweller and silversmith from my shop in Lyme Regis, Dorset.
I have always drawn inspiration from the sea and beach where I live on the Dorset coast. My jewellery collections are primarily concerned with triggering thoughts and memories through surface texture. I try to capture patterns and textures and translate these into metal; primarily working in silver. I also work in gold but this is usually to commission. The Sea Bubbles collection involves extensive use of soldering techniques to create a delicate latticework of silver circles, which are formed into different shapes. They are inspired by the breaking waves and foam found at the water's edge when the sea is rough. My casting range originated from a metalwork project at college but has developed over the years into pendants and brooches. Created using cuttlefish bone, I carve out fluid forms, brushing away the softer bone to leave very natural looking fine lines. Small objects found at the beach are then pushed into the bone. These pieces reflect the sand ripples and half-submerged shells and stones left on the shore after the tide has gone out. Other collections involve techniques such as forging, casting, etching, stone-setting and 'precious metal clay' and include rings, bangles, bracelets, cuffs, earrings, studs, necklaces, pendants and cufflinks. |
